Whiplash

If you’ve been involved in a vehicular accident and have experienced whiplash (an injury that results from sudden acceleration-deceleration forces on the neck), then physiotherapy may be a solution for you.

Physio Health Clinic’s primary physiotherapist, Andrew will utilise both passive and active treatments for this condition.

Passive treatment includes deep tissue massage, hot and cold therapy, and mobilisations. While active treatments focus on teaching you various exercises to work on your strength and range of motion (how easily your joints move).

Ultimately, these therapies will aim to target muscle tension that can develop as a result of whiplash and use direct pressure and friction to try to release the tension in your soft tissues (tendons, ligaments and muscles) to get more blood to the target area. This is because an increased blood flow brings more oxygen and nutrients to that area, and reduces inflammation which should help reduce muscle spasms, increase blood circulation, and promote healing of the neck tissues.

As a long-term solution, Andrew can teach you how to correct your posture and incorporate ergonomic principles into your daily activities. So that even after you recover from whiplash, you can prevent other forms of associated neck pain from developing.
