Arthritis and Osteoarthritis

Are your joints painful and swollen? This may be a sign of arthritis (of which there are over 200 forms, such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and gout). While this condition can be extremely uncomfortable, the good news is that it can be treated with regular physiotherapy sessions.

Arthritis’ onset can be sudden or gradual, but it is painful. Common symptoms include joint pain and inflammation; lower back pain; stiffness; tiredness; difficulty moving joints; muscle aches and cramps; difficulty walking or using your hands; and loss of flexibility and balance. Subsequent symptoms may include poor sleep – which can further aggravate your pain.

With this musculoskeletal condition affecting people of all ages (It is estimated that over seven million people in Australia alone will develop this condition by 2030), Physio Health Clinic’s primary physiotherapist, Andrew can provide advice and education on exercise, pain relief, and ways to manage your condition for people across all demographics.

As well as teaching therapeutic exercises to improve your joint movement, posture, and strength, Andrew may recommend, heat and/or ice therapy to relieve muscle spasms, hydrotherapy to increase range of motion, ease painful spasms, and improve well-being, anti-gravity treadmill training, use of assistive devices and adaptive equipment, and massage therapy.
